[Short Story + Post]
Escher had been worried the past two weeks.
Landrobe hadn't been back this whole time-- she put in requests to the security that was there for the Wonder Quartet if they had seen him at all, but they say that footage showed him vanishing. That's all there was.
A part of her felt that maybe-- just maybe-- he was back in their own time. But another part of her felt like the worst case scenario had happened. That what those people from Academia did... happened to him.
She thought she should go back, but it was so hard to sync this up-- going back meant going back to the exact time she left. But in cases where they didn't come here at the same time... just what would happen?
No, she should wait. She shouldn't mess this up. But at the same time... what could she do?
That's when she heard the door of their apartment open, and shut with a click. She got up, expecting it to be Garum or Mithra, but--
It was him. He was perfectly fine. That sandy sonuvagun--
"You're okay!"
Landrobe slowly blinked, rubbing the back of his head at Escher's sudden exclamation. "Am I not supposed to be...?"
"Not supposed to-- we've been worried this whole time! Since you disappeared at the Quartet! Just where were you!?"
"Back home." Guh, she knew it, she knew it, he was fine, he was back there. "Sorry, I had to bail out. Too many of those attackers at once... I was doing fine until they sent out the fourth, fifth, and sixth ones..."
"Well-- that doesn't matter. You're back now." Escher sounded relieved, but a pinprick of a question prodded at her. "But why are you back so much later? You could've come back sooner..."
"I decided I didn't want to come back during when this fallout would've been happening." He responded to that as flatly as possible. But then he shrugged a little. "And also... I needed some time to recover. Sumiho was waiting for me there, too." "That must've been like a dream to you." "Would've been if I hadn't been aching all over."
Landrobe let out a sigh. "No, though. He wanted to convince me again to stop doing this. To stop coming back here. So... We dueled over it."
"And you won, right?" "Of course I won. I ended up with a full field of Qlis and he had nothing." "Then what's the problem?"
... Landrobe took a deep breath, readying himself. "We didn't expect this, right? People who attacked like this, ganging up on others... but we don't know why this was never recorded, right?"
Escher shook her head. No, she didn't get it. "And what's more, it seems these people are from another dimension. Even if we wanted to help, we'll probably get looked at suspiciously thanks to our lack of records..."
"Well, I sure would. You might get off since you're a Pro Duelist." It was somewhat true. Escher might be able to join in and make a difference. Someone like Landrobe though stuck out records-wise like a sore thumb. "And I don't think we need to be telling anyone still that we're from another time... so what do we do?"
Escher thought a moment, and then remembered that video that went all over the place-- she didn't really know the girl in it too much other than memories of her Pro record, but maybe... "Well, there was this video that's been around. Looks like a girl named Alexandra Grant plans on trying to find a way to fix the issue of people getting turned into cards."
Landrobe blinked. Guess he missed the big exposition dump of what was going on. Escher brought up the video on her phone for him to watch, and several minutes passed by while he did. When the video finished...
"... So you think I should go with her, instead, while you try to go with that Akaba guy?" "If you think you can last through it, sure. I think she'd probably be a little more lenient anyway, cause even with the whole time travel thing, your health and stamina is still an issue." "I'll be fine. I'd have lasted through that whole Quartet if six guys hadn't come at me." "I know, I know... But if you want a chance at anything, it might be your best bet at having an impact on this. On any of this."
"Do we want to make an impact, though?" Escher looked at Landrobe-- a little surprised. "Wasn't that the point of doing this? To make an impact on our parts? Maybe even learn what exactly happened?"
"Yeah, but..." ... He shook his head. "Nevermind. I might still be tired." He handed back the phone. "I'll try to send her a message or something to see if she'll take me. You try to get in with Akaba's good graces, or see if Garum can't, since he's an LDS student."
"Will do, illustrious earth leader." She said that jokingly at Landrobe's commands, but really... a part of her was just glad he was fine. And still, clearly, not intending on laying back on this. ... She did reach over and pinch at his ear though, causing him to wince. "But you prepare for this if she takes you, alright? Get water and anything you might need together. See if Lucius can't compress the stuff for you so you can go lightly."
"I get it, I get it. Just let go."

Well... sorry if anyone noticed if I was gone. I ended up needing to recover after a marathon of six of those Academia guys tried to jump me in duels after I kept beating them.
Which by the way, anyone know how I can get in contact with that Wolfpack person?

...
Hi.

Lets... cut right to the point. Think I can join up with you?

Are you a spy?

... Is there gonna be a meeting place or something for this?
no subject
...okay, it's Yuma's apartment.

But really, thanks. I'll be there.
... Just one question though. You know exactly where we'll be going first?
[Wolfpack Filter]
We're going to Endymion, the magical city.
Re: [Wolfpack Filter]
Any reason why there specifically?
Re: [Wolfpack Filter]
And, I know someone high up in the city. If we're gonna be able to get help against Academia, it'll be from there.
Re: [Wolfpack Filter]
Just... tell me when you expect to be doing this. Okay? I gotta prepare my own things.

[Private to Landsy]
Re: [Private to Landsy]
Re: [Private to Landsy]
And you're thinking of going adventuring???
Re: [Private to Landsy]
And sure, why not. What else am I here for? Escher's already given me the whole "talk" that I gotta prepare myself. Just gotta figure out where Lucius is staying right now...
Re: [Private to Landsy]
Re: [Private to Landsy]
And as much as LDS might end up more equipped, you also know that Akaba'll give me a stink-eye if I even try thanks to dodgy records.
But really, I'll have my medication and everything with me, too. Escher suggested I get Lucius to set things up so everything's compressed.
Re: [Private to Landsy]
I think you should stay here and not be a hero, Landrobe, you have nothing to prove, with something like this.
Re: [Private to Landsy]
I want to have an impact. I want to do something-- something that'll put down my name, no matter which it is.
I'm not gonna be able to begin to do that the normal way, anyway, with the threat of attacks hanging overhead.
Re: [Private to Landsy]
Re: [Private to Landsy]
I really want to know why this point in time seemed... Erased.
Didn't it always strike you as weird that no one really knows what happened around now?
Re: [Private to Landsy]
Re: [Private to Landsy]
And I want to be a "war hero" if that's what it means. ... Sorry. I'd hope you'd at least get it, how... Frustrating it is for me to be told to just stay here and do nothing. Since that seems to be the only thing people in our time think I'm good for.
Doing nothing but sleep and recover from something that can't really be recovered from.
Re: [Private to Landsy]
You don't need to go to Magic Iraq or Afghanistan.
Re: [Private to Landsy]
... Besides, I've been trying to become a Pro through the SJL. I haven't gotten anywhere, no matter how good I am. Because it just wasn't meant to be, yet.
Really, if it'll set your worries at ease, I'll get Lucius to change the settings on the bailout to send me back no matter where I am and to tell if I'm actually endangered. If anyone can do it, they can.
... by the way, I didn't tell you, but Sumiho was waiting for me after I had to recover from the swarm of guys in blue uniforms.
Re: [Private to Landsy]
You can't have an impact if you're dead.
And, what about him. What did he do or say?
Re: [Private to Landsy]
Oh, he wanted us to abandon coming back here entirely. So he bet it on a duel.
I ran him over with a full field of Qlis.
Re: [Private to Landsy]
Dumb @ His part.
Re: [Private to Landsy]
Pretty much. ... But I am thinking I might scale back on this depending on how all of this goes. If I end up having to go back... then I'll stick to it, since it'll be meant to be. I don't want to give up on this, but if I can't manage anything, then what's the point?
Re: [Private to Landsy]
Re: [Private to Landsy]
... Sorry, again.
